Phonophobia in Pets
The short answer is: Yes
In fact, a huge number of domestic animals like dogs and cats experience a fear of loud noises. You'll often see on social media around events like New Years Eve people showing there discontent for Fireworks.
Likewise, it's commonly knowledge that Dogs are not a fan of thunderstorms.
It's not only domestic animals that shown signs of Phonophobia during Firework events; Wildlife and commercial (farm) animals often show additional fear too. It's reported that the incidents of wildlife killed on roads increases during these times (as animals are spooked and run into the road).
Unfortunately there's not a huge amount of can do to help wild life and farm animals, other than banning Fireworks, reducing the volume of them or making them silent.
However, for our own Pets, desensitization is a real tool we can use. Phonophobia Pal includes many of the sounds pets hate, like Fireworks, Thunderstorms, etc. The same method we use for ourselves also works. However, it's very important that you begin desensitization when the dog is calm.
If you want Pet/Dog focused App, please try our sister app out Sound School For Dogs which works similar to Phonophobia but has information about how to succeed with desensitizing pets.
